Schrader launches online TPMS education platform

TROY, Mich. — Schrader TPMS Solutions has launched an online educational platform, TPMSAcademy.com, for information on tire-pressure monitoring systems (TPMS).
The free training course walks service professionals through five modules of basic TPMS knowledge and training, the company said, covering topics such as the North American TPMS legislation, sensor overviews, installation best practices, programming and relearning.
Users who complete the course with an 80% or higher score will receive a certificate of completion, Schrader said.
The company — a business unit of Sensat Technologies Inc. — said it will add new training content to the platform on a regular basis, including up-to-date information about Schrader’s TPMS training opportunities.
To promote the platform, Schrader is offering a prize drawing through June 31. By completing all five modules of the course with a score of 80% or higher, individuals will be entered to win one of five Schrader 175th anniversary shop stools.

Trailer tire failure leads NHRA team to equip trucks with TPMS

BROWNSBURG, Ind. — After suffering a potentially tragic accident earlier this year by one of its tractor-trailers, Don Schumacher Racing has retrofitted its fleet of 18 trucks with tire-pressure-monitoring systems (TPMS).
The decision came after a mishap that occurred in January, when one of the team’s trucks, carrying driver Ron Capps’ Funny Car, caught fire after road debris punctured one of the trailer’s tires and caused it to come apart. Flailing steel belts produced sparks that ignited a fire, which spread quickly and eventually damaged much of the trailer’s contents.

Travis Pastrana stars in Yokohama educational videos

SANTA ANA, Calif. — Travis Pastrana became famous for his work in the X-Games. Next week, his focus will be on four different letters: TPMS.
The extreme sports star will be one of several Team Yokohama members featured in educational videos for the U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association’s (USTMA) annual Tire Safety Week, which runs Aug. 31-Sept. 6.
Each day, Yokohama will release one episode on its social media channels.
In Pastrana’s video, the former X-Games gold medalist talks about the importance of tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS).

Other videos include:

  • The basics on tire changing with pro UTV drivers Wayne Matlock and Kristen Matlock;
  • Why tires matter with pro skateboarder Lyn-z Pastrana;
  • How to check tire pressure with off-road racer Justin Lofton;
  • Checking tread depth with pro skateboarder Beaver Fleming;
  • Tire rotation with overlander and author Dan Grec; and
  • What the Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake symbol means with Spartan world champion and obstacle racer Robert Killian.

"National Tire Safety Week is an important, consumer-driven initiative," said Alan Holtschneider, Yokohama’s director of marketing. "Its goal—like Yokohama’s—is to help consumers learn more about tires, including essential steps for proper tire care and maintenance. These are the things that are covered in our video series."
"As we continue to navigate a new world impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, tire manufacturers such as Yokohama continue to create the smartest and most sustainable technologies that put the safest tires on the road," added Anne Forristall Luke, president and CEO of USTMA. "National Tire Safety week is an initiative that educates drivers about the critical role they play in maintaining tire safety and ensures they have the information they need to successfully prioritize safety on the road."

Continental introduces fuel-efficient long-haul steer tire

FORT MILL, S.C. — Continental Tire the Americas has introduced the Conti EcoPlus HS3+, a steer/all-position tire for long-haul or line-haul applications, where vehicles travel 100,000 miles or more per year primarily on the highway.
In field tests, Conti said the tire delivers 27% better mileage than its predecessor, the Conti EcoPlus HS3.
The tire is optimized for maximum mileage performance, lower overall fuel consumption and durability for retreading — the key aspects for lowest overall driving cost in this segment, the company said.
The tire features an advanced cap compound to provide improved cut and tear resistance for increased mileage, balanced with improved rolling resistance for fuel efficiency. The Conti 3G casing provides heat dispersion for increased retreadability.
The tire also is designed to provide a comfortable ride, as drivers may spend many hours per day in their vehicles, Conti said.
The Conti EcoPlus HS3+ is SmartWay verified, CARB compliant and is covered by a seven-year, three-retread warranty.
The Conti EcoPlus HS3+ features a tread profile that reduces sensitivity to road surface, fleet and vehicle variations allowing for improved performance throughout tire life. Its footprint shape offers wear improvements for increased removal miles. It also has a 10% improvement in de-coupler durability, Conti said.
The Conti EcoPlus HS3+ has a 19/32" tread depth and is currently available in the following sizes: 11R22.5 Load Range G and H, 295/75R22.5 Load Range G and H, 11R24.5 Load Range H, and 285/75R24.5 Load Range H.
The tire’s Conti 3G casing allows for retreads up to 245 millimeters in width. The casing allows for multiple retread use in both long-haul drive and/or long-haul trailer applications, the tire maker said.
The EcoPlus HS3+ is also available as an intelligent tire pre-equipped with TPMS sensors, upon customer request.
Tire monitoring solutions include the ContiPressureCheck on-vehicle TPMS and ContiConnect Yard digital tire monitoring system with web portal.
